From Egypt to Canada: the NDEB route for dentists

NDEB asks Egyptian graduates for an academic record issued in English, and for the degree in its original language with a translation only if it is not in English. This page covers the record, the internship rule, costs in pounds and the official places to ask.

Quick answer

  • One pass of every step costs $11,500 CAD (about EGP 452,800), at the rate dated on this page.
  • NDEB counted 59 applications from candidates who studied dentistry in Egypt in 2024-25, more than Ireland's 46 and the Philippines' 42 but fewer than Australia's 123.
  • An internship certificate is not required when the university issues the final degree without an internship.
  • The academic record has no translation route on NDEB's page: the university issues it in English.

Who this page is for

This page is for dentists with a bachelor's degree in dentistry from an Egyptian university that the Egyptian government authorizes to award it, when the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) does not recognize the program. NDEB's page for Egypt shows the final degree title in Arabic. You apply to the Equivalency Process, and NDEB gives no visa help.

NDEB's 2024-25 annual report shows 59 applications from candidates who studied in Egypt, above Ireland's 46, the Philippines' 42 and Ukraine's 35 and below Australia's 123. The map counts applications and says nothing about how many entered the Equivalency Process.

NDEB publishes no pass rate for any country of training. The AFK pass rate page shows what it does publish.

The route in brief

The order is fixed: application, AFK, ACJ, NDECC, then the Virtual OSCE of the Certification Process, which leads to NDEB certification. For Egypt the page to read is NDEB's list of documents, which asks for an academic record issued in English. Credential verification takes about 10 weeks when the documents are right. Read each step with its fee, how long the route takes, what can differ from training at home, the language rules and how to prepare.

Documents NDEB lists for Egypt

Egypt's page sets one language rule for the degree and another for the academic record, and the table shows both. Settle the record first, since only the university can change it.

What NDEB asks for from graduates of Egypt
DocumentNDEB's rule
DegreeA notarized color photocopy of the front and back of the final degree, in the original language (NDEB shows the Arabic title). A word-for-word translation by a certified translator is needed if the degree is not in English.
InternshipNot required if the university will issue the final degree without completion of an internship.
Confirmation of Degree FormReceived directly from the university, confirming the program length as shown on the academic record and the date the degree was issued.
Academic recordAn official academic record issued in English by the university, listing all courses through each year of the program and the results.
Statements of good standingA letter or certificate from every licensing body where the dentist was licensed, sent directly by that body.

A working order for Egypt. NDEB sets no order. This list is ours, built from NDEB's page for Egypt and its Application Guide, with the steps that depend on other people first.

  1. Ask your university first whether it issues the academic record in English, listing all courses through each year with the results. Settle this before you pay for anything else.
  2. Check whether your program required an internship or clinical rotation for the degree. If it did, send a notarized color copy of the completion certificate. If clinical work shows on the academic record, no certificate is needed.
  3. Ask each licensing body for a statement of good standing, sent directly.
  4. Have a notary copy the degree on both sides in color, in the original language, with a certified translation if it is not in English, and your photo ID. Mail your own documents to NDEB.

The notary, translation, affidavit and name rules that apply to every country are in the documents section of the AFK pathway.

Where to get official help

Use the 15-minute appointment with a credential verification specialist for Egypt questions, such as which record NDEB accepts when a university issues records in Arabic only. NDEB's answer holds up better than a forum post, since it reviews its rules regularly.

Questions from Egypt

Does my Egyptian academic record have to be in English?

NDEB's page for Egypt asks for an official record issued in English by the university, listing all courses through each year and the results. The page describes no translated record. Ask NDEB before you pay anyone to translate one.

Is an internship certificate needed from Egypt?

Not if the university issues your final degree without an internship, as NDEB's page for Egypt puts it. The Application Guide gives the rule behind it: send a notarized color copy of the completion certificate, front and back, in the original language with start and end dates, when your program requires an internship or clinical rotation for the degree. If clinical work shows on the academic record, no certificate is needed.

Does my Egyptian degree need a translation?

Only if it is not in English. NDEB accepts the degree in its original language, as a notarized color copy of both sides, and asks for a word-for-word translation by a certified translator when the language is not English. A translation attested by a school official is refused.

How do my Egyptian documents reach NDEB?

By mail or courier. NDEB lists no World Document Services route for Egypt, and documents cannot be uploaded to NDEBConnect. A university or regulator that cannot post hard copies may email a scanned, attested copy from an official, traceable account, with your NDEB number in the subject line.
